TIRANA, July 1 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Monday that using the white coat to get rich at the expense of the sick is tantamount to crime against humanity.
In a meeting with the heads of the services at the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center after the incident at the Oncology, Rama said that the criminal activity of some individuals disclosed recently is a very dark moment for the community of medical professionals.
He also quoted the words of one of the heroes of Albanian health system, Professor Besim Elezi, at the opening of the ultra-modern internal medicine hospital: “Even in our dreams we have not seen a hospital of these standards and this hospital is comparable to the best hospitals in Europe.”
“Besim Elezi and colleagues of his generation built a heroic health system in the most minimal conditions, in a hospital that had nothing more than the cleanliness and tools of a medieval hospital in France or elsewhere,” said Rama.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the hospitals were in short supply of almost everything we have today, but the figure and dedication of the doctor were exceptional.
While today, he continued, there is almost nothing missing, but unfortunately, the figure and dedication of the doctor are not always at the height of the mission that starts with the Hippocratic oath.
“Not being up to the task in many other professions is not a small problem, but not being up to the task in your profession is more than a big problem, it is a very big concern for a person when the fate of health is connected to the doctor”, said Rama.
“Having the diploma and the license to practice this profession and using the most symbolic uniform of society and the state just like the masks of bank robbers at the expense of the sick is a crime, not just against them, but against all humanity.”
