TIRANA, June 30 /ATA/ Bushek, one of the most popular tourist spots, is located near the city of Elbasan. In the old Turkish annals, this area was known as Buzurshek. Some linguists think that the name Bushek may derive from the term “buze sheut” (at the edge of water flow), which means the river Shkumbin.
This center of great touristic value used to host merchant caravans crossing the Egnatia road. Archaeologists have discovered traces of an ancient church, one of the earliest in this region.
The centuries-old plane trees that offer shade to the vacationers have an interesting history as it is said that the Turkish cavalry in its attack against Sopot used Bushek as a base. The poles where their horses were tied took root and grew into today’s plane trees.
Today, Bushek maintains its former importance as a host for citizens who cannot go further to the coast. Crystal-clear water gushing at the foot of a massive rock flows into a water catchment popular with visitors. With the economic and cultural development of the town, the prospects for Bushek are very great. In recent years, a series of investments in infrastructure and works of engineering art have been made in this tourist spot, which have had a positive effect on the improvement of this tourist area.
The road rehabilitation project has increased interest among visitors. Although important steps have been taken, there is still a lot of potential to be unlocked.
Bushek, with its rich history and stunning nature, continues to be a favorite destination for Elbasani people and tourists. Thanks to investments and promotion, this natural gem from year to year is turning into one of the most important tourist destinations in Albania.
Many tourists have visited Bushek this summer, Anna who came from Germany invited by her Albanian friends says that “it is a fantastic place! The scenery is incredible and the air is so fresh, it was an experience I will never forget.”
John, from Minnesota and a visitor to Albania, described Bushek as a paradise for nature lovers, while he praised the hospitality of the residents of this area as impressive. “Definitely a place that is worth a visit, visiting here has filled me with energy and peace.”
