TIRANA, June 21 /ATA/ – The head of the Euro-Atlantic Democrats, Lulzim Basha, called on the special anti-corruption prosecution structure, SPAK, to look into the misuse EU funds earmarked for development of Albania’s agriculture sector.
Basha issued a statement following the release of a report by the European Anti-Fraud Office, OLAF, which –according to him – has officially announced that it has identified the misuse of 134 million euros in EU funds under the IPARD Programme intended to help Albanian agriculture.
He said that “the case of abuse with EU funds is just the latest evidence that Edi Rama’s government is the problem facing every category of the Albanian society.”
The head of the Euro-Atlantic Democrats “encouraged SPAK to launch a profound investigation into this corruption scandal that hurts Albanian farmers.”
Basha added that under the main opposition’s proposals for development of Albania’s agriculture sector substantial support is promised for farmer families, with 100 million in direct subsidies annually and 50 million allocated for infrastructure development, benefiting 150,000 farmers countrywide.
