TIRANA, June 19/ATA/ Under the hot weather conditions when our country is affected by high temperatures that are expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius during the current week, doctors give some advice to all citizens on how to be more careful while going out in the sun, but also with food consumption.
Family Doctor at the Medical Center no. 9 in Tirana Artan Bitri told ATA today that “citizens should avoid going out during peak sun hours, 11.00-17.00, while should be more care taken with children and the elderly”.
Special care, said Bitri, should be shown especially by the persons chronically ill.
“For the cardiac patients with restrictions on the hydric regime, there is recommended consumption of 1.5 liters of water per day. If situations arise with increased fluid loss in these patients, a larger amount of water can be consumed, after consulting with their doctor,” said Bitri.
To eliminate problems from high temperatures, Bitri advised avoiding direct exposure to the sun, protection through a hat and light clothes and the use of protective creams.
Doctor Bitri said that, “Not only the chronically ill, but everyone should consume water and liquids, electrolytes, fruits and vegetables during the day”.
All those who suffer from chronic diseases should consult their family doctor or a specialist in order to better cope with the high temperatures of the summer season.
The groups most at risk of high temperatures are: the elderly, infants and young children, as well as people suffering from various chronic diseases such as: cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, thyrotoxicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), mental diseases, kidneys, renal failure, kidney stones, pregnant women, etc./k.s/p.s./
