TIRANA, June 4 /ATA/ – State Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi hosted Tuesday the new Ambassador of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Michel Tarran, with whom we talked about the support given to our institution and the way forward.
Ambassador Tarran emphasized that he has inherited an excellent cooperation relationship with the CEC and that he will continue deepening cooperation and institutional support.
The meeting also focused on joint projects of electoral education and training of the electoral administration with a focus on creating a permanent training structure with the aim of increasing the capacities of the electoral administration on the way to its gradual depoliticization.
The Head of the central election body said that he and the OSCE Ambassador also “discussed in detail the deadlines for the implementation of the electoral reform and voting from abroad and we were on the same frequency regarding the time for implementation, which time is shortening day by day.”
Ambassador Tarran underlined that there are only 10 months left to start the process of voting for Albanians abroad from scratch and that it will be very difficult for the CEC to implement, since voting from abroad remains problematic from a technical point of view even for many countries more developed than Albania.
The OSCE Ambassador emphasized that the political forces must find an agreement as soon as possible, since the process of preparing the vote from abroad requires considerable capacities, time and expenses.
Commissioner Celibashi thanked Ambassador Tarran for the sincere conversation and his efforts to guarantee the support of the OSCE Presence to the CEC.
