New cold storage facility for chestnuts in Tropoja

TIRANA, May 25/ATA/ Albania owns the largest chestnut forest in the Balkans, with an area of 10,000 hectares, 30% of which is located in the Northern region of Tropoja.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Anila Denaj, together with Deputy Head of Mission of the United Kingdom in Tirana Mia Marzouk, were in Tropoja where they participated in the inauguration of a new cold storage facility for chestnuts financed by Great Britain.

With two areas for storing chestnuts, a cooling area and a freezing area, the refrigerator reaches a capacity of 40 cubic meters. This process ensures the preservation of chestnuts in optimal conditions, extends the shelf life, preserves the quality and improves the marketing opportunities, increasing the income for the families who depend on this sector.

Denaj said that this investment does not only serve the enterprise that has set up this refrigeration center, but the entire area.

According to her, this point offers a perfect combination of agri-tourism with agriculture, as the refrigeration and collection point are links that will increase the value of the stamped product.

“Through this investment, we are working to create all the conditions to guarantee support and protection from all sides for entrepreneurs and the product,” she said./r.e/p.s./
