TIRANA, May 22 /ATA/ – British Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated at a press conference in Tirana, Albania, on Wednesday that “it is of our common interest to help the reconciliation process in the Western Balkans.”
In a joint press statement with the Prime Minister Edi Rama, the visiting British Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated that if there are challenges in the Western Balkans, they also affect Europe.
“Thanks for calling me a friend of the Western Balkans and the region. Indeed, I hold a simple and direct perspective: when the Western Balkans thrive, so does Europe. Conversely, if there are challenges in the Western Balkans, they also affect Europe,” Cameron said.
“It is actually of our common interest to help peace and reconciliation process, economic growth and understanding in the Western Balkans and this has been and it is a top priority for me even when I was serving as Prime Minister,” he added.
Cameron also thanked PM Rama for confirming his attendance at a meeting on July 18th in the United Kingdom.
“I am greatly pleased that you will be attending the meeting on July 18th. The meeting will actually take place in Blenheim Palace and it will be a very important meeting not only for the EU member states, but also for countries like Albania and Great Britain that want a positive and solid relation in our whole region,” he said.
Cameron continued, addressing broader European issues, including irregular migration, support for Ukraine, stability, economic growth and success in the Balkans.
