TIRANA, May 21 /ATA/ – The Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro affirmed Tuesday that Albania is negotiating with Philippines and Indonesia that would bring thousands of Filipinos and Indonesians to Albania for work purposes, mainly in the tourism sector.
Tourism Minister said in a televised interview that the country’s tourism sector needs qualified labour force. Kumbaro said that the visa requirements have been eased in a bid to allow qualified and skilled workers from the Asian countries to travel and work in Albania.
“We have reached agreements with several countries and we are negotiating with the Philippines and Indonesia for workers to allow and ease access of the labour force. We have eased visa requirements for work purposes to provide the opportunity to workers from Asian countries to come and work in Albania. We are also working with the Albanian diaspora, since many young Albanians are working in such sectors in other countries and are now returning back home,” Kumbaro said.
She also underlined that a high influx of visitors is expected to the country during the summer tourist season.
“If businesses claim that their bookings have increased by 40%, this means that we will expect 14 million visitors this year. But we need workers for these visitors. We are making preparations to secure workers this year, but Albania is now a year-round tourist destination,” Kumbaro noted.
