SP’s draft resolution, EU delegation for ATA: Initiative should be in alignment with commitments of EU accession process

TIRANA, May 13 /ATA/ The delegation of the European Union in Tirana reacted on Monday regarding the draft resolution on anti-corruption proposed by the Socialist Party.

“The EU delegation welcomes any initiative to advance the processes of Albania’s reforms for good governance, the rule of law and anti-corruption, building on previous reforms and achievements, as well as in accordance with the constitutional principle of check and balance,” the EU delegation told the Albanian Telegraphic Agency.

“We emphasize that it is important to make sure that this initiative will be developed in full alignment with the findings of the legislation screening reports (screening process) and with the commitments that Albania has taken as part of the EU accession process, which are roadmaps for the rule of law and public administration,” it is further stated in the response to ATA.

Regarding the justice sector, the EU delegation notes that the main principle should be the irreversibility of the 2016 justice reform.
The EU delegation states that, “it is of paramount importance that the proposed parliamentary process is evidence-based, transparent, has strong cross-party support and relies on comprehensive and meaningful consultation with all institutions and stakeholders, including civil society.”

“On the back of Albania’s EU accession process, the EU is offering significant assistance to Albania in the areas of good governance, rule of law and anti-corruption, and is ready to increase its support, when the need arises,” same sources from EU delegation told ATA.
