TIRANA, May 9 /ATA/ Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja said that, “The draft law between Albania and the EU for Albania’s participation in the “Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values” program is of great importance for protection and respect of human dignity, including the rights of persons belonging to national minorities”.
While taking the floor today in the plenary session of the Assembly, Gonxhja expressed his appreciation that on Europe Day, in his first speech from the rostrum of the Parliament, he presents for approval an act with the European Union.
According to him, the projects in this area aim to protect, promote and raise awareness of the rights, providing financial support to civil society organizations active at the local, regional and inter-regional level, strengthening respect for the rule of law and contributing to the construction of a more democratic union and inclusive communities.
Gonxhja emphasized that Albania has made the commitment to be part of this Program through signing of the agreement for participation in the “Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values” program on December 27, 2023. He also highlighted that the membership history of Albania in the program dates back from 2015, when the Agreement on Albania’s participation in the “Europe for Citizens” Program was ratified by law.
Gonxhja invited the MPs to approve this agreement, which aims to provide support for international cooperation projects including organizations in the human rights sectors./r.e/p.s./
