TIRANA, May 4 /ATA/ – The Minister of Interior Taulant Balla pledged hire pays and expanded firefighting service in his remarks at a ceremony at Tirana’s Mother Teresa Square to mark the International Firefighters’ Day on Saturday.

Interior Minister stated that firefighting service should achieve much higher standards in view of service delivery to the citizens across the country.

“Our path towards European Union membership should transform the firefighting service to reach operational and response standards of the most advanced countries,” Balla said in his message.

Interior Minister highly praised and expressed profound appreciation for the service rendered by all members of the firefighting departments and paid tribute to the late firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Balla said he was proud of the readiness, response and performance demonstrated by firefighters in handling dozens of wild fires last summer, acknowledging that a lot remains to be done to provide  a more decent treatment to all service members.

“However, we have already started to open a new phase of how to treat this service, which has embarked on a new stage of transformation of the human resources and its infrastructure through modern and state-of-the-art equipment and vehicles, as well as in terms of financial treatment,” Interior Minister stated.

The firefighting service hires currently more than 1600 members in 61 municipalities across the country. Firefighting service, the State Police and National Health Emergency Service will jointly operate as part of a Technical Intervention Team in several most populated hotspots across the country to act and response immediately in case of emergencies during the summer season.
