TIRANA, March 15/ATA/ Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Anila Denaj stated today that, “The alignment of Albania’s legislation in the field of consumer protection with that of the EU remains an indisputable effort”.
Denaj addressed the National Council for European Integration where on occasion of the World Consumer Rights Day, there was organized a meeting of awareness under the topic: “Consumer challenges in the near and distant future”.
According to the minister, the success in the screening process with the three chapters 11, 12 and 13, is a very good and qualitative basis to project the success of this journey, which will absolutely require the support of business.
“I want to thank the supporters of this process from the representatives of donors such as those within the EU and strategic partners, including USAID, who have been concretely involved with projects that will support us in this legislative process in the coming years,” Denaj said.
The minister emphasized that apart from the legislative process, investments are also important, specifically in the laboratory system, which is very important in the field of consumer protection.
Denaj said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is currently preparing amendments to the laws related to food safety and the health of the consumer, animals and plants, which will be taken for approval to the Assembly by the end of the current year.
“The 12th chapter of food safety is not the only one that presents a challenge. Chapter 11 of agriculture and rural development also has its own challenges which are closely related to all elements of our agri-food system. We are working on the full alignment of the legislation, which will happen in 2025,” the minister said.
She stated that there is work underway to create a system for identifying land parcels and a complete system of administration and control that will improve the effectiveness of direct support in agriculture.
“Albania has been facing the problem of land fragmentation for many years. Likewise, the organization of the common market is a major challenge. We need to sit down and talk on the chapter directly related to fishing. This year, we will present the fishing law for review in the Parliamentary committees while fish trading in this field according to the best standards is also important”, emphasized Denaj./p.s./
