Small municipalities fail to perform financially, Himara with the highest income

TIRANA, March 13 /ATA/- In the working meeting that Prime Minister Edi Rama held with the government and the mayors of the municipalities in Shkodra, Minister of Local Government, Arbjan Mazniku, analyzed the findings for 61 municipalities of the country in the collection of income and their human resources.

The findings reveal that small municipalities, those with less than 20 thousand inhabitants, find it difficult to generate their own income and therefore find themselves in financial difficulties, relying mostly on the grants they receive from the central government.

In the table, the municipality with the best financial performance is Himara with about 45 thousand ALL collected per capita.

Himara’s good performance is attributed to its geographical position and the high economic activity as a result of tourism. Kurbini, on the other hand, collects less, about 950 ALL per capita.

The ratio of the municipality that collects more revenue to the one that collects less is about 48 times.

The group of municipalities that collect less include the small municipalities, those with a population up to 20,000 inhabitants, or those with up to 50,000 inhabitants.
Meanwhile the bigger the municipality, the higher the likelihood that it collects more revenue and performs better.
