TIRANA, March 8 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama, also leader of the Socialist Party, held Friday a meeting with the local Socialist organizations in the city of Berat, where the new party membership continued as part of the campaign to reenergize the ruling Socialist Party.
Addressing the meeting with party supporters and members, PM Rama said that the country’s European Union membership requires leadership and public support in the efforts to deliver on the integration criteria.
“The European Union asks you to deliver and do this and that and you can’t refuse, because this way you can’t join the bloc. And these are difficult tasks and the EU accession talks is not a phase just focusing on the performance of the government alone, because it is not the government that will join the EU, but it is Albania and the government represents just a part of the stakeholders that compose Albania’s system; it is the government, Parliament, the judiciary, as well as the public and private sectors, which has to deliver on a series of requirements regarding quality, technology, products certification, standards and warranties. All these call for strong leadership, public support as an expression of the awareness of the overwhelming majority of the people that we have to deliver on all of these,” PM Rama said.
He underlined that a series of important projects have transformed the city of Berat, a UNESCO world heritage site.
“Today I am visiting Berat after a long time and I was very pleased to visit the museum city, as the many ongoing or completed projects are already creating the mosaic of a transformed city,” PM Rama said.
The government head noted that more than 800,000 tourist visited Berat in 2023, saying “it is a record-breaking and unimaginable figure.”
“The number of families that have obtained bank loans to invest in transforming their traditional family homes into guesthouses is also impressive. Some 35 new guesthouses are about to open their doors soon,” the Premier said.
