PRISTINA, Feb 7 /ATA/ – The European Commission’s lead spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy, Peter Stano warned Wednesday that Kosovo risks lagging behind on the path towards accession into the European Union, because of he called as “unilateral actions” of the country.
He called both on Kosovo and Serbia to focus on meeting their obligations stemming from the agreements under the EU-facilitated dialogue between the two countries.
The European Union has constantly objected Kosovo’s recent actions that the EU has termed “unilateral and concerning,” namely the central bank’s rule to ban use of the Serbian dinar in transactions throughout the country, as well as closure of the Serbia-run institutions in Dragash, Pejë, Istog and Klinë municipalities.
The EU has called on Kosovo to address these issues that are foreseen to be resolved in the EU-facilitated dialogue.
“Kosovo’s unilateral actions have caused our concern. Therefore, Kosovo may remain out or behind on the path towards EU accession,” Stano stated.
Kosovo submitted the EU accession bid in 2022 and it is the only Western Balkan country that has yet to gain the candidate country status.
