TIRANA, February 7/ATA/ The Bank of Albania reported that non-performing loans fell into 4.7% in December 2023 from 5.1% in November and 5% at the end of 2022.
This is the lowest level since October 2008.
The progress of non-performing loans last year were better than expectations while taking into account even the growing inflation.
The experts think that tourism had the most important affect in the demand for goods and services and in the health of the private sector of the economy.
Likewise, according to them, the slight increase of the interest rates by the Bank of Albania last year and the strengthening of Albanian Lek in the currency exchange market had an important affect.
Meanwhile, the increase of the loan portfolio by 4.2% also helped in the reduction of the specific weight of the non-performing loans portfolio./p.s./
