Agalliu: Tax on self-employed will increase informality

TIRANA, January 10/ATA/ Secretary for the Program of the Democratic Party in opposition Arbi Agalliu said today in a statement to the media that beginning from January 1 there are 262 free professions, of thousands and thousands of Albanians working to support their families, who will pay a higher tax in the budget the state.

Agalliu said that beginning from January 1, there has entered into force the progressive tax with the tax rates of 15% and 23% for the self-employed of the free professions.

“These self-employed make up the majority of the middle class of our society. It is precisely this strata of citizens that makes the circulation of money. It is precisely this strata that consumes and invests in the Albanian markets. It is precisely this strata that pushes forward the Albanian economy, generates jobs, and circulates capital”, he said.

But, Agalliu added, the government instead of reducing the fiscal burden, it does the opposite.

“The increase in the fiscal burden, and especially the progressive tax in countries with a fragile economy like Albania, will increase informality, let alone that the increase in the fiscal burden pushes the business into bankruptcy”, he said./p.s./
