BoA Supervisory Council: Base interest rate for lek kept unchanged

TIRANA, Dec 20 /ATA/ The BoA Supervisory Council decided to keep unchanged the basic interest rate for the lek, in today’s meeting, based on the expectations for the further drop in prices next year.

The BoA Governor, Gent Sejko, said at Wednesday’s press conference that “the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania, after discussing the economic and monetary developments in the country and their expected progress, decided to keep the basic interest rate for the lek unchanged at the level of 3.25%.”

Sejko also said that “the interest rate for the overnight deposit facility at the Bank of Albania remains unchanged at 2.25% and the interest rate for the overnight lending facility remains unchanged at 4.25%.”

“The Supervisory Council deems that high inflationary pressures from the domestic economy remain a risk factor for price stability in the country. In this context, he emphasizes that he remains ready to continue the process of normalizing the stance of the monetary policy, if this action is deemed necessary for the control and guarantee of price stability,” Governor Sejko said.
