Ambassador Hovenier: U.S. hasn’t changed position regarding establishment of Serb Association

PRISTINA, Dec 13 /ATA/ – The United States Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier stated Wednesday that the U.S. hasn’t changed its position regarding establishment of the Association of the Serb-dominated municipalities in the country, underlining that the Association should be formed in accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo and there should not be another Republic of Srpska- like entity in Kosovo.

After a conversation with Kosovo students from all backgrounds South Mitrovica, the U.S. diplomat reiterated that “the U.S. doesn’t want something that would negatively affect functioning of the state of Kosovo.”

Hovenier underlined that there is nothing new regarding the U.S. position towards the Association establishment, telling reporters that it is only the Constitutional Court that can decide about constitutionality of the new draft on the Association.

He added that the administrative directive to allow mayors to leave municipalities in northern Kosovo was a direct request by the European Union and the United States of America.
