Habitats conservation, bird populations counting along Prespa shore and Pogradec

TIRANA, Dec 10 /ATA/ – Specialists at the Regional Administration for Protected Areas in the south-eastern Albanian region of Korça, in collaboration with ornithological experts, environmental and conservation organizations and nature lovers, recently conducted birds observing and counting along certain parts of Prespa and Pogradec lake shores.

The monitoring bird populations in these protected areas, the geographical distribution and determination of the areas according to the size of the bird populations serve the continued efforts to devise strategies or national policies on conservation and preservation of their habitats.

The hunting ban in Albania, coupled with the continued care by the relevant teams and staff in the protected areas are helping the country’s wild fauna to regenerate.

The bird watching tourism is constantly growing in the protected areas, whereas number of nesting birds is also increasing exponentially.
