TIRANA, Dec 6 /ATA/ Agriculture experts emphasize the importance of agricultural cooperatives uniting single growers to increase the value of agricultural products.
The director of the Regional Agency of Agricultural Extension in Korça, Vullnet Gjolla, says that the creation of agricultural cooperatives is a must for the sector and the farmers themselves.
“Farmers must cooperate with each other to boost high productivity and increase yields,” he said in a media statement.
Gjolla says that this will also boost the sale of production which in turn minimizes stock and generates a higher income for the farmer.
“To that aim, an initiative was taken by the Ministry of Agriculture and the law on agricultural cooperative was drafted with the aim of encouraging farmers to join forces in cooperatives to produce products at a lower cost,” said Gjolla.
According to him, when farmers unite, production increases, because there is more quantity, more guaranteed quality, and when there is more quantity and more guaranteed quality, there is more negotiating power with the market.
There are about 43,000 farming families in the Korça District that deal with the production of agricultural and livestock products.
