TIRANA, Dec 4 /ATA/ Minister of Interior, Taulant Balla, called for eradication of gender-based violence.
“Stop gender-based violence. Harassing a girl on the street is violence. Stalking is violence. Keeping her from going to work is violence,” Balla emphasized.
Balla praised the State Police and Police Station no. 6 in Tirana, which have just detained a citizen who is suspected of stalking a girl for several months.
“Victims of sexual and gender-based violence must be protected and treated with dignity and respect. It is our duty, it is the duty of the State Police to increase vigilance and resolutely address violence in all its forms and to take measures to prevent violence against girls and women, to protect the victims and to prosecute the perpetrators of crime,” Balla said in a post on social media.
Balla underlined that victims of violence should not be stigmatized, instead we should offer them protection, support and full reintegration into work and society.
“Violence against women and girls takes many forms. Therefore, there is no excuse for violence against women”, stressed Balla.
