Begaj with journalists: Believe in freedom of expression

TIRANA, Nov 10 /ATA/ President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, participated on Friday in the awarding ceremony in journalism, an annual event organized by the Union of Albanian Journalists.

In his address to the journalists, the Head of State emphasized the important role of the media in reshaping society and the difficulties the journalists run into while carrying out the mission to speak the truth.

“Although your work is often criticized, many times deprecated and rarely properly appreciated, it is related to the belief in a noble cause: unbiased information and analytical sense to give meaning to daily social life,” said Begaj.

President Begaj encouraged the community of journalists to carry out this mission, assuring them of his support.

“This cause requires professional and idealistic people who believe in freedom of expression and public responsibility. Therefore, I encourage you not to give up in the face of difficulties, because your dedication and courage to disseminate accurate and objective information is a contribution to the well-being of society. You should feel not only encouraged, but also confident in performing your duty,” Begaj said.

“I take the opportunity to repeat once again my utmost support for you. Cases of physical violence against journalists should be a thing of the past, just like cases when professional freedom and freedom of expression are infringed, through direct or indirect pressures,” said Begaj.

President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj appreciated the promotion of success stories in journalism, as models to be followed by future generations.
