TIRANA, Oct 16 /ATA/ In his remarks at the first session of the Berlin Process Summit entitled “Integration of the region into the single market and improvement of convergence with the EU”, the Kosovo Prime Minister, Albin Kurti focused on the September 24 terrorist attack in Banjska.
Kurti place emphasis on the Berlin Process Summit role, established to improve cooperation and create good neighborly relations between the countries of the Western Balkan.
“Today, the citizens of the Western Balkans should not live in fear of tomorrow’s conflict, but to work together for the future. In the terrorist attack against Kosovo on September 24, one of our police officers was killed, but the perpetrators are still roaming free in Serbia, even though they publicly admitted their involvement,” Kurti said.
“Even 25 years after the genocidal campaign, following the series of rounds of dialogue, Kosovo is still threatened with invasion from Serbia. As the leaders of our country, our responsibility is to build a common future. We must also engage in the process in good faith. A good faith commitment is required to ensure the long-term effectiveness of our agreements and and to respect all parties in the process,” he added.
“Last year, we signed three mobility agreements, an important step towards tangible results. Unfortunately, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s disregard for key agreement on freedom of movement means that the visa requirement between Kosovo and Bosnia is still required,” he said.
“Kosovo supports the EU four-pillar growth plan for the Western Balkans by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The EU can be reformed and expanded. I also believe that the benefits of the EU Single Market should be linked to economic and democratic reforms. There should be no EU benefits, nor EU funds, without EU values,” Kurti stressed.
“Kosovo, a vibrant democracy, is prepared to face new challenges and embrace a brighter future. In this regard, we are pleased to have created the Convergence Observatory,” he added. //a.i/
