TIRANA, Oct 1 /ATA/ – The Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu urged Albanian women and girls across the country on Sunday to protect their lives by undergoing mammography test as the only way to detect breast cancer at an early stage.
In a video message on the start of the breast cancer awareness month or Pink October, Health Minister highlighted the efforts and commitment of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to continued fight against breast cancer, one of the leading causes of death by cancer for women in the country.
Health Minister said that providing mammography test for all women all over Albania and expansion of oncology wards at regional hospitals have helped in efforts to detect breast cancer at an early stage and significantly cut the fatality rate among women.
Urging all women and girls to cooperate with health structures, Koçiu noted that early detection of breast cancer remains the most effective treatment of the disease and that undergoing mammography screening can save lives.
Health Minister appealed to all women and girls to take advantage of the free mammography test programme being extended throughout the country.
“Let’s fight breast cancer together. Thanks to the state-of-the-art equipment and our doctors, many mothers and women are successfully winning the battle against this disease. Join the national awareness programme and early detection of the breast cancer. Undergo breast cancer screening on time,” Health Minister Albana Koçiu said in her message.
