Farmers, investments in climate resilient infrastructure

TIRANA, Sept 13 /ATA/ The production of fruit trees in our country is another important sector in the field of agriculture, where farmers show increasing attention in recent years.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, about 14.7 million fruit trees with a total production of over 296 thousand tons, 11 million vines with a production of 128,356 tons and 1.7 million citrus roots with a production of 55,118 tons are cultivated in our country.

Agricultural experts note that the production of fruit trees varies from year to year and this indicator varies is determined by various factors, including climate conditions, investments, technology and the skill of farmers.

Today, coping with climate change affecting agricultural production remains a major challenge for farmers.
Farmers have been supported over the years for protection and production, as part of the support schemes offered to them, while agricultural experts suggest as another alternative solution the insurance of farms with an insurance company, which undertakes compensation in case of damage from natural disasters.
But today the use of anti-hail nets allows farmers to maintain a continuous supply to the market by reducing the risk of production loss, ensures increased quality, minimization of the damage, reduction of agrotechnical expenses, etc.
Farmers in Korçë, Lushnjë, Sarandë and Vlorë have increased investments in the protection of agricultural production from climate risk.
According to the data from the Directorates of Agriculture, in total, in this region, over 40% of farmers have invested, in addition to the expansion of orchards, in anti-hail nets, for the management of climatic risk in agriculture.
