TIRANA, September 6 /ATA/ The Second Assembly of Arbëresh Studies under topic “Survival of Arbëreshi language in the 21st century” concluded with the Forum chaired by Prof. Diana Kastrati and Prof. Eda Derhemi, among the main actors, who discussed the state of the Arbëreshi language.
Attending were activists, heads of Arbëreshi communes, as well as Arbëreshi researchers, who answered a series of questions about Arbëreshi language, the implementation of the law 482/99 and the will of the parties in the implementation of this law.
This forum sparked a debate about the level of language use and the state of present-day Arbëreshi communities.
On the second day of the Assembly, Dr. Edmond Cane from the Center of Studies and Publications for Arbëreshi delivered a speech entitled: Determining the levels of use of Arbereshi, its transmission between generations and the prioritization of factors, as a prerequisite for the development of language policies.
Dr. Cane presented the data obtained from the work on the ground carried out as part of the expedition in the municipalities of Arbëreshi people in June 2022. These data combined with direct observation on the ground led to the conclusion that the Arbershi language is at the limits of survival in the Arbershi communities in Calabria. /r.e/p.s./
