PM Rama: Albania has registered record 40% decline in murder rate

TIRANA, Sept 4 /ATA/ – Foreign tourists have found impressive safety while visiting Albania, Prime Minister Edi Rama, also leader of the governing Socialist Party (SP), said in a speech he delivered to the party’s National Assembly on Monday.

Citing official data, the government head stated that Albania’s murder rate has kept falling each year, hitting record low in 2023. According to him, the country has registered a record 40% decrease in murder rate compared to 2022.

“They are finding impressive safety in this country that has nothing to do with the disheartening legends over an alleged unsafe Albania. Being totally surprised, some English friends sent me a map of house burglaries in Europe, with Albania ranking bottom with lowest rate, whereas Great Britain ranked top with the highest number of reported house burglaries,” PM Rama said.

“The homicide rate in the last eight months has fallen by 40% compared with the same period of the previous year, when we recorded the lowest number of the fatalities in the last three decades,” he stated.

“But for me and everyone else here, the best of this time of freedom and continued effort to ultimately include Albania in the map of political, economic and tourist Europe is that all those almost one million Albanians who support us through vote, as well as the millions of foreign tourists who visit this country each year thanks to the persistent work of this government, local government authorities, hundreds of thousands of Albanians are investing, creating jobs and employing others in their enterprises or are self-employed in their own small businesses,” PM Rama went on saying.
