TIRANA, September 4 /ATA/- President Bajram Begaj addressed a message to the Assembly of the Republic of Albania on occasion of opening today of the 2023-2024 Parliamentary session.
While he wished to the lawmakers a good start of the new Parliamentary session, President Begaj expressed his appreciation for the work and initiatives of the Parliament and underlined that the opening of this session finds Albania facing challenges for the resolution of which the Assembly has an essential role.
Focusing on the quality of the political dialogue, Begaj appreciated that the quality of the exchange of ideas between the political wings, as well as the involvement in constructive discussions, unfortunately still leaves much to be desired. Transform Assembly into a space of reconciliation and constructive debates, said Begaj.
The President considered the emigration of young people and well-educated and well-qualified citizens to be a serious problem.
“The promotion of economic growth so that all the Albanians benefit requires fair competition, acceptable prices, quality services and well-educated and well-qualified personnel”, emphasized the President.
Gender equality is also an important issue at the national level.
“While at the level of representation, the public sector has taken positive steps, the improvement of legislation for gender equality has not changed the situation of women in economic difficulties and mistreatment and violence remain present”, said Begaj.
In his message, President Begaj also mentioned the freedom of the media, which has an essential role in a democratic state, so journalists must have every opportunity to report freely, both the work of public bodies and the problems of citizens.
Focusing on justice, President Begaj stated that: The results of the reform in justice are visible and it is imperative that all political forces and their representatives in the Parliament of Albania unanimously provide support for the progress of this reform that puts a clear dividing line between the past and the future.
President Begaj’s attention in the message addressed to the Assembly also included security challenges, where he singled out cyber security.
At the end of his message, Begaj dwells on the Diaspora, which he considered the country’s valuable asset that deserves to be fully integrated into the political, economic and social life of the country.
“A fundamental step in this direction is the agreement on the legal framework which will make the voting of Albanian nationals living abroad a reality, no later than the next elections”, concluded President Begaj./p.s./
