PM Rama: Standing in EU bus is safer than sitting in a Russian plane

TIRANA, Aug 29 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted Tuesday after the European Commission rejected the remarks by European Council President Charles Michel, who told the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia a day ago that the European Union must be ready to enlarge by 2030.

In a post on the social media, PM Rama compares the European Union with a bus that “may be too slow and destination too far, but it is safe.”

“Yeah of course, that’s why the bus can never become a plane… Anyhow trust me, at the present status of affairs standing in the EU bus even without a seat is safer than sitting in a Russian plane, because the trip may be too slow and our destination too far, but one thing is sure like death: This bus will never crash,” Rama said.

The European Commission opposed the European Council President’s idea about EU enlargement by 2030.

“We are not focused on a date, but focused on working very closely with candidate countries to get ready for joining the European Union,” the Commission’s deputy spokesperson Dana Spinant said at a daily press briefing earlier.
