TIRANA, July 24 /ATA/ A complicated life-saving cardiovascular surgery was successfully performed, thanks to the excellent cooperation between the medical teams in the Cardiosurgery Ward of the “Shefqet Ndroqi” University Hospital and the Vascular Surgery Service of TUHC.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared Monday on social media the opinions of the doctors and the 75-year-old patient on this successful surgery.
“The delicate combined operation of coronary revascularization and endarterectomy of the dexter internal carotid artery was successfully performed. The 75-year-old has already been discharged from the hospital and is in good health condition,” said Rama.
Prime Minister expressed his highest appreciation for the medical teams Prof. Asc. Sokol Xhepa, D.Sc Albi Fagu, Dr. Marsela Sopiqoti, Dr. Ketion Menkshi, Dr. Dervish Hasa, Dr. Marjeta Bilaj, Dr. Anri Gongo, Dr. Nevila Çaushi and nurses Marinela Guri, Gladiola Daci, Eriselda Kiço, Marjola Ozuni.
Dr. Albi Fagu said that the preoperative examinations found that the patient had developed severe carotid artery stenosis, a diagnosis that significantly increases the risk of performing cardiac or vascular procedures.
“Thanks to the willingness of the vascular surgery team of the Tirana University Hospital Centre to cooperate, we were able to perform a combined surgery. The coordination of the two teams was perfect and this resulted in a successful operation and a smooth postoperative course,” he said
Prof. Asc. Sokol Xhepa said that the special thing lies in the fact that both operations were performed at the same time on the same patient, with the same anesthesia.
According to him, it is the first time that this double intervention is performed between the Vascular Surgery of QSUT and the Cardiac Surgery service of “Shefqet Ndroqi” Hospital./m.m/sm/
