TIRANA, July 14 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama will address to the public opinion about parliament vote to lift immunity of lawmaker Arben Ahmetaj on Friday.
PM Rama said he will address to the public at 6:30 p.m. today.
Albania’s parliament lifted the parliamentary immunity of former deputy prime minister Arben Ahmetaj on Friday, to allow justice bodies to prosecute him on corruption charges.
With 117 votes in favour and three abstentions, the parliament approved the request from the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime, SPAK, to lift immunity from prosecution and authorize the arrest of lawmaker Arben Ahmetaj.
A total of 120 MPs took part in today’s parliament special session to review the request from SPAK.
Ahmetaj faces charges of corruption, money laundering and he’s also accused of falsifying his wealth statements. In a long letter earlier today, the former deputy PM Ahmetaj denied any wrongdoing.
