Interest rates for deposit accounts in Lek fall into 1.41%

TIRANA, June 28/ATA/ The average interest rates for deposit accounts in Lek of individuals fell in April.

According to Bank of Albania statistics, the average interest rate of new deposits in Lek for individuals for April decreased to 1.41% from 1.46% in March.

Deposit interest rates began to rise after the change in the Bank of Albania’s monetary policy in March of last year. Growth was stimulated especially by a rapid expansion of Albanian government treasury bill yields, which attracted a strong increase in private direct investment and created more competition for public savings.

This caused the average interest for new deposits to increase continuously up to the level of 1.54% in January of the current year.

However, the drop in the yields of the treasury bills in the first half of this year is being reflected in a curb of the increase in deposit interest rates. /p.s./
