TIRANA, June 22 /ATA/ Minister of Interior, Bledi Çuçi, spoke on Thursday in parliament about the draft law “On the ratification of the agreement, between the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania and the Government of Montenegro, for the opening of the Saint Nicholas-Pulaj joint border crossing point for international road traffic and joint border control activities.”
“The opening of this joint border crossing point will give extra breathing space to the residents of the areas around the Buna River, but also an alternative impulse for the free movement of people and development of a more cohesive tourist ecosystem on both sides of the border,” Çuçi emphasized.
“To begin with, it will facilitate the movement of Nënshkodra residents , an integral part of the municipality of Shkodra and the areas of Ulcinj in Montenegro, the Highlands of Kraja.”
Secondly, Çuçi continued, “the distance will be significantly shortened and the flow of entries and exits through the joint border crossing point in Muriqan will be reduced guaranteeing the smooth running of the work during the tourist season. And of course the distance between Velipoja and Ulcinj will be shortened drastically. Today, this distance is 70 km and with the investment in infrastructure, the construction of the new bridge, an agreement that went through this parliament, the distance will be only 310 m.”
Thirdly, Çuçi continued, “there is no question that the exchange of activities and tourist packages will be intensified as a result of shortening the distance.”
Çuçi underlined that, “this project as well as the new connecting point will enhance the international reputation of tourism in our region.”
“Tourism is growing apace in Albania year after year, and any investment in infrastructure that helps this sector will always come as a welcome boost,” said Çuçi.
