Screening on environment cluster underway resumes in Brussels

TIRANA, June 19 /ATA/  -The explanatory screening meeting on Cluster 4 kicked off on Monday with Chapter 27 – Environment and Climate Change.

The Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro is attending the launch of screening on a crucial chapter of the EU accession negotiations.

Environment and Tourism Minister said on a video posted on the social media that Chapter 27 on environment and climate change and a team of representatives from 15 various institutions are attending a marathon of meetings and talks throughout this week to look into all the obligations Albania needs to deliver on as it progresses on its path towards EU accession,

“Together with European Commission colleagues, we are going into everything, from the waste management, air quality, climate change, to biodiversity and protected areas to deliver on our obligations and commitments. It is perhaps the most difficult chapter, as it is not just about a process of evolution, as it might have been the case with countries that are European Union member states now,” Kumbaro said.

“For us, it is a revolution, because what other countries have accomplished in decades, we must do in a few years. It is not the first time that the Albanian government faces such challenges the climate and environment sector and biodiversity. We have already committed very brave acts, such as declaring Vjosa, the last wild river in Europe, a national park,” she went on saying.
