TIRANA, June 13 /ATA/ – With the new summer tourist season underway, the Osumi Canyons in the southern region of Skrapar are becoming one of Albania’s most popular adventure travel destinations, attracting a growing number of both domestic and foreign visitors, outdoor sports enthusiasts and adrenaline lovers.
National Agency of the Protected Areas said Tuesday that a significant number of visitors from all over the world visited the area over the weekend to explore the magic of the Osumi Canyons nature, but also enjoy a fantastic experience full of emotion and adrenaline.
Thousands of rafters and adventure travelers from all over Europe have been discovering Skrapar’s canyon offering rafting and kayaking opportunities as well as many other outdoor sports such as climbing and trekking as well as mountain biking.
As soon as you cross the town of Çorovoda and walk upstream, a magnificent view of the 13-km long, 35-m wide and 70-80-m deep Osumi Canyon emerges, with its vertical slopes at the base of Osumi River flow. The Osumi River canyon is one of the most spectacular natural attractions of Albania. During spring, high water from melting snow makes it possible to explore all 26 km of the canyon from the river.
Often called as Colorado of Albania, the view of Osumi Canyons is stunning, full height, light contrasts, diverse vegetation, a real attraction for domestic and foreign tourists.
Stretching along 13 km and surrounded by 100-meter high, rafting enthusiasts sail through countless waterfalls. On the slopes of the canyon, erosive activity has created pockmarked cavern walls, with small caves to explore as well. Some of the rock formations in the canyon have fanciful names such as the Cathedral, the Eye, and the Demon’s Door.
