Deputy PM Balluku: Regional cooperation at highest level

TIRANA, June 7 /ATA/ – The Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, also the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, told a regional conference that the Berlin Process is turning out to be a fruitful mechanism for the Western Balkan countries on their path towards European Union integration.

Addressing the conference “Green Agenda implementation for the economic and social prosperity in Western Balkans,” Deputy Prime Minister Balluku stated that cooperation among the Western Balkan countries, as well as with the European Union is at its highest level.

“This all thanks to the German government’s leadership in the Berlin Process, a platform that has demonstrated to be a fruitful mechanism as our countries move forward on the path towards the EU membership by delivering on reforms and projects that have brought us closer to meeting our national objectives on the EU integration,” Balluku said.

According to her, the energy crisis, the most serious over the years, presented every country with a huge dilemma.

“Green transition or energy security? Facing such a choice when you have to tell the truth and be a decision maker is one of the most difficult situations and I have been through it myself. Many countries were forced to postpone or temporarily suspend their carbon emission plans, prioritizing the security of energy supply for all subscribers. This situation brought to attention once again the need to find a stable balance in long-term policies between the interests of economic development, environmental ones, but also social ones,” she said

According to her, this issue was at the core of the Berlin Process summit last  November, when the leaders of countries in the region approved a joint statement on energy security and green transition.
