Manja: We are set to begin work on drafting new Civil Code

TIRANA, May 29/ATA/ Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja said today that it is high time for Albania to begin work on drafting the new Civil Code.

During a roundtable with business representatives, Manja said that the actual Civil Code was approved in 1995, while the Constitution dates back to 1998.

“Practice has moved forward, the dynamics of social and juridical-civil relations have advanced a lot today. Albania is in the process of aligning its legislation with the EU. So, it is the right suggestion that the Ministry of Justice starts work on drafting of the new Civil Code”, he added.

Meanwhile, Manja also informed about the progress with drafting the new Penal Code.

According to him, the working group set up to draft the new Penal Code already has a product.

“A general part of the Criminal Code has been completed. By the end of July, the working group will also finish the special part and we will have a draft open for consultation,” he said.

According to Manja, the Criminal Code is a political-juridical reform and this Code was drafted in 1995. “We have intervened 38 times in the Criminal Code”, he said./m.m/r.e/p.s./
