TIRANA, May 19/ATA/ At the venues of the Museum of Archeology there was organized the scientific conference “Museums, sustainability and well-being”, an initiative of the International Council of Museums – ICOM Albania and the Institute of Archeology (ASA).
The organizers managed to bring together scientific researchers, museum professionals and specialists and individuals active in the preservation of museum cultural heritage. The topics discussed at the conference are related to the legal framework for museums in Albania, the role of museums in modern society, the cultivation of heritage at the heart of the community, risks, trafficking, preventive and awareness measures on the protection of cultural heritage, up to ” the woman’s museum” as an alternative in contemporary society.
Archaeologists, anthropologists and collectors lectured in front of an audience of mainly students of the Faculty of History and Philology: Edlira Andoni, Sabina Veseli, Belisa Muka, Melsi Labi, Ermela Broci, Dorian Koçi, Aurora Kamberi, Dorina Xheraj-Subashi and Elsa Ballauri.
A special place was dedicated to the promotion in the Albanian language of the document “Red List of Cultural Objects of Southeast Europe at risk”. This document was originally presented by ICOM in English and all ICOM national committees in the Balkans, as well as Albania, are translating this document into their languages.
Albania is the third country in the Balkans that is promoting the document in its native language, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage. These practical manuals present the categories of cultural objects that can potentially be subject to theft and trafficking. They are designed by ICOM museums and cultural heritage experts to help cultural heritage institutions, organizations, law enforcement, especially police and customs officials, identify objects that are at risk of theft and prevent their illegal sale and trafficking. /p.s./
