PM Rama: Shkoder belongs to everyone, despite political affiliation

TIRANA, May 19 /ATA/ –By  I. Vata/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated Friday that Shkoder city belongs to everyone as he launched a tour across the country to thank voters for giving his ruling Socialist Party a stunning victory in Sunday’s local elections.

The government head started his tour in the biggest city in northern Albania, where the ruling party scored a historical victory for the first time in 30 years, given that Shkoder has been a stronghold of the opposition Democratic Party.

The Premier thanked local Shkoder residents for supporting the ruling Socialist Party and its candidate Benet Beci.

“We are here to primarily wholeheartedly thank all of those who participated in May 14 elections and backed Benet Beci and the Socialist Party. For the first time, SP has secured the majority in the city council in Shkoder. I would also like to thank those who refused to participate in elections, given that it was impossible for them to vote for Benet and for the Socialist Party, but also reasoning that it was impossible to vote for those who have stained all the Albanian democrats,” he said.

PM Rama said he considered victory in Shkoder as the most serious challenge to his Socialist Party and his government.
