TIRANA, May 15/ATA/ Ambassador Audrey Glover, head of the ODIHR election observation mission, spoke today about the progress of the May 14 local elections in Albania.
Glover said that during the voting process there were noted several incidents.
“We noticed family voting in some polling stations and people who did not know how to proceed during the voting process. There were some areas where it was quite clear that some manipulations were taking place. We saw people coming around the polling stations,” Glover said in the press statement on the preliminary election findings.
Asked by the reporters if these situations affect the outcome of the election, Glover said that it will be seen which cases will be brought to court to see the impact on the outcome of the election.
Glover was also asked about the winning candidate in Himara, Alfred Beleri, who is in prison on charges of vote-buying.
“Of course, we hope that there will be held the relevant legal procedures and they will give the result in accordance with the law. This is what we want to see”, said Glover.
Ambassador Glover also emphasized that there was a small number of women interested in participating in the local elections./p.s./
