TIRANA, May 12/ATA/- The Prosecutor’s Office of Vlora issued today the arrest warrant for Fredi Beleri, the candidate of the opposition coalition “Together we Win” for the Municipality of Himara.
The official document signed by the Judicial Police officer Ogert Thoma reads that Beleri was detained in the act under the charge of “Active corruption in elections carried out in collaboration”.
The prosecution office clarifies that Beleri was detained in the act in Himara at 00:14 minutes in collaboration with other persons, promising and giving monetary sums to various persons in order to buy votes.
In the minutes of the arrest, it is stated that the order was signed by Beleri himself, while he has been informed that according to Article 255 he is entitled to have a defense attorney; he is not obliged to make statements and to mind that whatever he says can be used against him at trial.
Beleri was previously sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment for incitement and national hatred in 2003./p.s./
