PRISHTINA, April 17/ATA/- Every April 16, many citizens of Kosovo return to Kukës, to commemorate the biblical exodus of 1999, where they found hospitality, generosity and an open heart for them.
Under a special symbolism, hundreds of citizens from Kosovo crossed the Kosovo-Albania border to arrive in Kukës even on Sunday, the 24th anniversary of “Exodus 99”.
Ambassador of Albania to Kosovo Qemal Minxhozi described Kukës as the epitome of Albanian hospitality.
In March and April 1999, the Serbian army undertook a widespread wave of ethnic cleansing of the Albanian population in Kosovo, forcibly removing thousands of residents from their homes.
It was Kukës city that became their second home, where about 700 thousand people took shelter in houses, institutional buildings and in the camps that were set up for their reception, until June 13, 1999 when Kosovo was liberated from NATO and KLA. /p.s./
