Gjirokastra, rare stork is back for nesting

TIRANA, April 1/ATA/ Migratory birds, mainly the white stork (Ciconia ciconia), have already arrived in Gjirokastra for nesting.

The Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA) reported in a post in social media that, “After a flight for survival from the African continent, overcoming dangers such as electroshock and illegal killing, the pair of white storks has already arrived at the nesting platform and has started work on fixing and fortifying the nest”.

In this nest, the stork family will welcome the new members, who will be fed by the parents until they learn to fly for the first time.

The construction of the nesting platform was undertaken by PPNEA-Gjirokastra and the Transmission System Operator – OST sh.a. in order to increase the nesting opportunities of this type in our country.

This species counts less than 10 pairs in Albania and is listed as a critically endangered species.

Very soon PPNEA will activate the live streaming camera which will monitor the stork family 24 hours a day.

The broadcast will be accessible online for all well-wishers. /k.s/p.s./
