TIRANA, March 30 /ATA/ –By I. Vata/ – The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) lawmaker, Jorida Tabaku, taking the floor at a parliament’s question and answer session with the Ministry of Finance and Economy Delina Ibrahimaj on Thursday said that a clear report on cost of post-earthquake reconstruction programme has yet to be revealed.
“The government of Albania took part in an EU-hosted international donors’ conference in early 2020 and the international community pledged 1.15 billion euros in donations, grants and loans to help the country rebuild from the aftermath of the November 26, 2019 earthquake, respectively 295 million euros in grants and 853 million euros in soft loans. The Prime Minister initially set the end of 2021 as the deadline to complete the reconstruction process. Albanian government established a relevant reconstruction ministry after the disaster, tasked with overseeing the post-earthquake reconstruction process. However, neither the Ministry of Reconstruction, nor the Ministry of Finance and Economy have produced a clear report on the cost of the reconstruction programme. We can clearly tell Albanians today that the promised reconstruction process is a lie,” Tabaku said.
The opposition lawmaker claimed that the OSCE/ODIHR report noted that the reconstruction process was used for electoral gains by the government, saying that there is no information as to when the process would complete.
