TIRANA, March 27 /ATA/ In a media statement from the headquarters of the Socialist Party, the chairman of the SP in Tirana, Erion Veliaj, presented the list of candidates for the city council of Tirana, which has been submitted to the Central Election Commission. Veliaj expressed his enthusiasm about the names running in Tirana and underlined that this list is a testimony to the successful cooperation between the municipality of Tirana and the government.
“It is a list that will bring a new energy and an extraordinary commitment from young professionals, from those who bring their expertise and who represent the new generation for the municipality of Tirana. Since we are the largest and most serious party in the country, we didn’t wait until midnight for last minute deals or compromises. In this list you will see that we want to carry on the extraordinary cooperation with the government of Edi Rama. There are many people, especially those who are running, who want to take control of the municipality of Tirana in the hope that they can overthrow the government. We want the municipality of Tirana to cooperate with the government and through this cooperation to achieve results in Tirana, to design projects, so that Tirana fares well. Using the government of a city as an instrument to overthrow another government is a faux pas in politics,” said Veliaj.
He also presented the areas the new names running for the city council come from. “We have a list, which embodies, as never before, a cooperation between the government of the Republic of Albania and the municipality of Tirana – a government that supported us in times of need. Of course, it supported us during the pandemic and in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake but also in major projects that we co-finance, such as the New Bazaar, the Ring Road projects, the Pyramid, school reconstruction and many projects, where Edi Rama-run government and the municipality of Tirana have an agreement on co-financing. This is the reason why we will have some of the deputy ministers in the city council of Tirana, starting with: Romina Kuko, Megi Fino, Julian Hodaj, Endri Hoxha, Hantin Bonati, Vjollca Braho, Besart Kadia, Enio Civici, etc.,” Veliaj said.
He added that the municipal council will also include a team of lawyers, such as Plarent Ndreca or Eridian Salianji, as well as business representatives, such as Luan Bregasi, who comes from entrepreneurship. Veliaj added that Etleva Bajrami, deputy dean of the Faculty of Economics, is part of the list that will help in economic matters. Also, the list includes well-known architects and experts in the conservation of historical heritage, such as Ledia Tota or Adelina Greca.
“For the first time, we also have representatives of the Roma, Egyptian community on the list, to show that Tirana is not a racist city, that it does not segregate people into newcomers and natives. We also have the list with the youngest age below the age of 35 years,” said Veliaj.
