TIRANA, February 8 /ATA/ The Center for Research and Publications on Arbëreshi people reported that during an activity held at the beginning of February at the government of Italy, the mayors of Arbëreshi municipalities presented the request for development of new projects in line with the Law 482/1999 on protection of Arbëreshi language minorities.
The request of Arbëreshi municipalities is submitted in the framework of the preservation and protection of Arbëreshi traditions and language.
The Italian authorities have approved the requests made, which means that the new projects will be financed and the cultural activities of Arbëreshi people will be carried forward. One of the municipalities of Arbëreshi people in Sicily in 2022 received 44 thousand euros of funds for the projects of the Arbëreshi community.
This activity was carried out within the Polis project of Italian Posts, for the reorganization of post offices in municipalities with less than 15 thousand inhabitants.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella, present at the meeting, praised the efforts of small municipalities, which have fought persistently to keep post offices open, but also keeping up the values of these areas, where the population has been shrinking.
