TIRANA, Feb 7 /ATA/ In the digital age, the legal processing of personal data is inter-related to taking appropriate measures regarding the security of devices and systems.
The Office of the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Protection of Personal Data in cooperation with the Albanian Center for Sustainable Development, with the support of the Swiss Embassy in Tirana, organized the second activity in the light of the project “Cybersecurity and data protection” this time with a focus on higher education institutions (HEIs). In attendance were students and lecturers of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Tirana.
In their remarks, Commissioner Besnik Dervishi, but also Dean Spiro Drushku, emphasized the necessity of interaction between links/structures of public or private controllers to fully guarantee citizens’ rights in the provision of safe services.
The expert in this field, Emirjon Marku, in his presentation, touched on the national regulatory framework and gave examples from practice in the education sector. HEIs are considered among the big controllers due to the type and amount of personal data they process, taking into account the high number of individuals involved in this process.
In evaluating this position, it is important to understand that taking technical-organizational measures, including a secure digital/cybernetic environment, is crucial for the prevention and minimization of personal data breaches. Another important topic that was discussed was the contribution of HEIs to initiate interdisciplinary content and new methodologies in the teaching process or in their curricula, both within the educational structure and in cooperation with other parties/actors in the field of the protection of personal data.
