TIRANA, Jan 26 /ATA/ –By I. Vata/ – Shkëlzen Berisha, the son of the former PM Sali Berisha, appeared Thursday in front of prosecutors at the Special Prosecution against Organised Crime and Corruption (SPAK) to be questioned in relation to the 2008 Gerdec’s explosion, where 26 people died after a blast taken in an ammunition dismantling plant.
Answering to reporters’ question after walking out of the SPAK building, Shkelzen Berisha said he told prosecutors the same things he has already said publicly, which, according to him, “will not help with the investigation.”
Shkëlzen Berisha denied any wrongdoing and connection with the tragedy or any decisions taken about the plant in the village of Gerdec, outside Tirana.
“I have repeated what I have already publicly declared. I reported to SPAK in respect for the law and just like every other citizen,” he said.
Berisha said he didn’t feel threatened by SPAK, while expressing astonishment that he was summoned 15 years later.
