Health Minister: Pay rise, policies to make career in general practice more attractive

TIRANA, Jan 23 /ATA/ – A series of sustainable and long-lasting policies are being considered to increase the physicians and medical workers pay and make careers in general practice more attractive, the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu said in her remarks at a meeting with doctors who completed postgraduate medical education for various medical specialties.

“We will keep working not only to improve the working conditions and increase wages for doctors and medical workers constantly. A 7% pay rise is projected under the 2023 state budget starting in July. We will also support the bonus program for doctors who agree to work in regional hospitals across the country. On the other hand, in the context of the doctors mobility challenge we will continue to build sustainable policies to keep doctors in Albania, but also make physicians, currently living and working in other countries, return back home and find an attractive employment environment in Albania,” Health Minister said.

Focusing on the incentives created through hospital autonomy, Manastirliu said that “the challenge with hospital autonomy is definitely related to regional hospitals, in addition to university hospital centres, which will develop the opportunity for hospital autonomy and human resources and performance-based financial incentives.

More than 400 specialist doctors have been hired employed in university, regional or municipal hospitals, delivering care to citizens close to their place of residence.
